Carrie Pearson entertained and engaged Bates students with information about herself as a writer, how animals adapt to cold weather and the writing process.
Second Graders Diego Reyes, Evelyn Clemens, Emma Ockerman, Griffin Patel, Jessica Wahenschutz, Elle Barnabo, Veronica Hochrein, Meryl Freiman, Alex Hoffman, Sara Angus, Quinn Hilla, Will O'Haver and Malia Yalisove did a fantastic job performing Reader's Theater with the words from A Warm Winter Tail. After the presentation, Pearson had a Writer's Workshop with a small group of second grade students where they worked on a story about a rock "...because if you can write about a rock, you can write about anything!". Students were given their rocks to take home.
Students touted Pearson's performance as "really fun" and we all learned a lot about both science and writing. Overall, the visit was a tremendous success. We anxiously await the arrival of Pearson's second book which will discuss how animals adapt to hot weather.
